Midwife needed in Northern California!

Location: A 90-min radius of Lake Almanor, CA (includes Chester, Westwood, Quincy, Susanville, Janesville, and occasionally, Chico). These are all rural communities, with Susanville and Quincy having the only hospitals around. While this area has some unique challenges (distance from hospitals and snowy driving, for example), it also has some delightful advantages (serving a wide range of clientele from all walks of life and relationships/respect/support from all the closest hospitals and OB providers). Many of the OBs in the hospitals regularly refer low-risk women to me. The landscape is breath-taking with mountains and lakes, streams and every seasonal outdoor activity you can imagine. It is truly amazing if you enjoy a slower and somewhat old-fashioned world.

Need: My practice has been full for the past three years and the demand continues to increase. I am turning away 3-6 families each month, so there is the potential for a midwife to come in and choose to work part-time or full-time.

About Nicole Staniger, CPM, LM: I have six children of my own, ranging from 1-13yo. We have a small homestead that we are slowly building. I caught my first baby in Africa in 2005 and have been full-time in midwifery since 2009. I worked at a busy birthing center near Dallas, TX, for 7 years before I felt like I had enough experience to move home to Lake Almanor and begin a practice in 2006. There are NO other midwives in my 90-mile radius and I have been trying to find someone who would fit with the area and my style of practice - which is intimate and thorough. I am not a risky midwife and am very grateful to have the support of local OBs who take my calls anytime I am wanting advice or need to refer a client. We often have dual-care arrangements for ladies that cannot deliver at home but want midwifery prenatal care. Having this network creates a safety net for serving in such rural areas. I have trained several birth assistants who are capable of assisting in any of the areas I am working. We do emergency drills as a team very often.

If this is an opportunity that you might be interested in considering, please email or call me. I look forward to finding someone as soon as possible but am also happy to wait for the right fit - so reach out!
Peace, Nicole

The day has finally come!!! I’m ready for a student. Are you looking for a fun preceptor that remembers what it is like to be a student? My years as a student midwife will always bring fond memories and many lessons about how to be a midwife and how to be a preceptor. I am practicing in Redding California where you can find many opportunities for housing with local college students. Time off-call can be spent in the beauty of Northern California. MCU preceptor registration and NARM preceptor registration have been applied for. If you have needs for approval for another school we can work that out. I serve approximately three clients per month and take time off call three times per year. Message me for an interview. (Yes, that was my “first catch,” see, I told you I know how to have fun!)

Midwife Job Opening (attn: recent grads) with Long Beach Birth Center

Midwife Job Opening (attn: recent grads):

California. With Long Beach Birth Center.

I am a midwifery student and coordinator at Long Beach Birth Center in Southern California. I'm reaching out with somewhat of an SOS on behalf of our practice. Our director has been reaching out to look for an LM or CNM to start ASAP without luck, so I'm jumping in to help with the search and I thought I would reach out to NMI.
We are short right now, with 2 of our midwives leaving by the end of July. We hope to have someone trained and ready to work full time by then, but will likely be accepting applications past July.
Our practice is somewhat new (long-standing but now under new ownership with lots of changes), and there's so much potential here. We are looking for someone who has the heart for out-of-hospital birthing and the motivation to commit and help us continue to build something great.
We are hoping there's a midwife out there who's maybe looking for a new start in the LA/OC area and wants to work with a group serving this community in the birth center and homebirth setting.
Here is a link to the job description.

Birthlocal California Apprenticeship Opportunities

Birthlocal (CA) IG @birthlocal (https://www.birthlocal.com/) recently shared: “8 year practicing solo midwife, highly imperfect yet trying to be a good human, seeks committed, smart mature student for apprenticeship. Apprenticeship begins with a 3 month trial period, and, if mutually agreeable, would then be the start of a 3 year commitment to training to qualify as a Licensed midwife. Independent Community Midwives are a special calling requiring crazy hours and a lot of critical AND compassionate thinking so this must be taken into consideration before applying.

Ideal candidate must be able to commit to 12 hours a week in clinic, 12 hours a week doing admin, and 12 hours a week in births (average but varies a ton) in addition to your own school, family, or other work. Clinic takes place in Carlsbad, CA, and in North Park, San Diego. Pay begins once you are capable of handling admin or birth assisting as needed, respectively.

Candidates must be enrolled in a qualified MEAC accredited program to apply.
