Alaska Midwife Position

Your Alaska adventure awaits! The Juneau Family Birth Center is seeking a full time midwife for an interim contract lasting 2-3 years as one of our staff midwives takes a sabbatical from clinical work.

Juneau, Alaska is an idyllic town of 30,000 people situated between an ocean full of fish and mountains full of hiking trails and skiing runs. In addition to a wide variety of outdoor activities, our arts and culture scene is bustling with numerous performance groups and indigenous classes and activities.

Our practice was initially opened in 1998 in a small build-out of a local office building. It quickly became apparent that we were going to outgrow that space and we moved into our custom built birth center in 2008. We have built a campus of health care and share space with a number of other wellness providers including acupuncture, massage, counseling, and physical therapy.

Over the years, it has been a priority to foster a strong relationship with other medical providers. We are exceptionally proud of the trust and respect that exists between our practice and hospital based providers.

Achieving balance and joy is a priority for our team. We currently care for 50-60 families per year and have a rotating schedule that ensures rest time between births. We are all strong communicators and value our time together to review cases, discuss current research and best practices, and continue to improve the quality of care we provide.

This non-permanent position is a great opportunity for new grads who want more exposure to working in a birth center, or a midwife who wants a more leisurely pace for a few years. All of our midwives are salaried with other benefits including vacation and sick leave, continuing education, phone, and car use stipends, and payment of licensing and certification fees. www.juneaubirthcenter.org
